On July 11, 2011, CNW’s bunks 20 and 21 boarded the Birnie Bus on their way to a competitive Softball tornament. Each girl stepped onto the Echo Lake field with a smile on their face, ready to play. After several hours of being covered in sweat and dirt, running as fast as they could, and throwing with all their might, Che-Na-Wah was proud to announce that they were the Champions! This result would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the hard, powerful glove worn on Emily S’s hand that was able to catch the ball. The ninth grade girls each contributed to the tournament in the own special way. Sydney W’s incredible arm was able to pitch by making the opponent strike out. Rachel K and Shelby S both had the hands that were able to catch any ball that flew at them like a bullet. With her super human speech, Lizzie G was able to hit the ball with all her might and run to first base without getting out. Hannah R had an incredible eye that stayed glued to the ball at all times. Sophie R’s perfect positioning, when up at bat, caused her to hit the ball out far and make her get to second and third base several times. The Che-Na-Wah team had an amazing time playing the other camps. Although they lost their first game, they were still able to get their act together and play as hard as they possibly could. Each girl was never so happy as at the game’s end. The screams and shouts coming from each of the campers as they drove into camp filled the air. Everyone was so proud of the victory. Grobie was amazing at organizing the tournament day, Jodi was a fabulous Coach. She was great at preparing us. Lizzi Vogel and Robyn Weiss both were super.
It was a great day!
